Star Health launches India’s first health insurance policy in Braille

Star Health and Allied Insurance has introduced a Braille insurance policy. The aim is to empower the visually impaired in India and enable the blind community to access health insurance information independently.

The new “Special Care Gold” policy offers personalized health coverage for people with disabilities.

The policy is designed to meet the specific needs of people with 40% or more disability, including physical, sensory or cognitive impairments.

Star Health has also launched a financial inclusion campaign, offering visually impaired people the opportunity to become health insurance agents.

The initiative focuses on training and upskilling this marginalized group, enabling them to generate income while working from home.

Anand Roy, Managing Director and CEO of Star Health InsuranceHe said, “We are committed to making health insurance accessible to all, including the 34 million visually impaired people in India. This initiative aligns with IRDAI’s vision of ‘Insurance for All’, supporting both health coverage and financial empowerment.”

The Braille policy was developed in collaboration with the National Association of the Blind (NAB).

It includes essential medical treatments and support services for people with disabilities, providing comprehensive coverage that is often unavailable to this community.

At the launch event, Srikanth Bolla, co-founder of Bollant Industries, expressed his support.

“Special Care Gold is not just an insurance policy; it is a step towards true inclusion,” he said.

Bolla, a visually impaired entrepreneur, is now a licensed health insurance agent at Star Health.

This initiative also includes fully funded exam preparation for new agents, with audio training and notary assistance.

A dedicated hotline will provide ongoing support to officers with disabilities.
