Harvinder Singh’s life changed dramatically when he was just one and a half years old. Following a bout of dengue, he was given a series of injections as part of his treatment. Tragically, these injections led to a severe adverse reaction that led to deterioration in the function of his legs. Singh, who hailed from a farming family in Ajit Nagar village, Haryana, had to face the difficulties of coping with a physical disability from a very early age.
Despite facing adversity, he refused to be discouraged. Having grown up in a rural environment, he was no stranger to the challenges and hard work of farming, which instilled in him the resilience to overcome obstacles. It was remarkable how the fields that had been so formative in his upbringing later served as a launching pad for his successful career as an archer.
In 2012, Harvinder Singh discovered his love for archery while watching the London Paralympic Games. Watching Paralympic archers display their incredible skills on the world platform sparked a deep passion for the sport in him. What started as a fascination quickly turned into a powerful ambition. Encouraged by his coach, he made his first appearance at the World Para Archery Championships in 2017, where he impressed everyone by securing seventh place. Since then, Harvinder has dedicated himself to honing his skills and has never looked back.
Singh’s path to the 2024 Paralympics was truly extraordinary. His intense training regime saw him turn his family farm into a specialist archery range, where he dedicated himself to honing his skills. Following his earlier success of winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, Singh’s journey culminated in an extraordinary achievement at the 2024 Paralympics.
