Delhi NLU student commits suicide in his hostel room

A third year Bachelor of Laws student died allegedly by suicide in his room at the National Law University hostel in North Dwarka area, officials said Thursday.

The student’s body was discovered on Wednesday afternoon by her roommates and other hostel staff when she failed to open the door despite repeated calls, they said.

His body was found hanging from a cane in the bedroom, a police officer said, adding that a suicide note was recovered in which he did not blame anyone.

The hostel staff informed the local police and the anti-crime team inspected the place, the officer said. The officer said the student had been depressed for the past few months. She had discussed suicide with her friends earlier, following which the management had called her parents, who took her to their home in Chennai for some time, the officer added.

On Wednesday she did not attend her class and did not show up for lunch after which her body was discovered.

The body will be handed over to relatives after an autopsy. Police said an investigation is underway.
