Venice Film Festival 2024: ‘Joker Folie a Deux’ Receives 11-Minute Standing Ovation | Entertainment News

At the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Todd Phillips’ musical psychological thriller ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ received an 11-minute standing ovation. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

In any case, the first reviews don’t seem to be very flattering. According to reports, the theatre audience erupted in cheers and applause, especially praising Gaga’s performance in the musical thriller.

The Joker receives a standing ovation

Joaquin, Lady Gaga and Todd were praised by an enthusiastic crowd in the Sala Grande, receiving an extraordinary 10.5-minute standing ovation, according to news agency ANI.

According to the report, the audience at times broke out into chants of “Ga-ga, Ga-ga, Ga-ga!” during the applause. During breaks in the serenades, others shouted, “Gaga, we love you!” The singer-actor thanked fans and gave them kisses.

Unlimited Praise for Joker 2

Although the film received many applause, no one thought it was “good.” The Hollywood Journalist wrote in its review of the film: “Gaga is a captivating and vivacious presence.” However, the film is described as “serious” and “desperately needs” the main characters’ songs to be featured regularly.

Phoenix’s performance was criticised in the Guardian review as “as flat as before, though certainly just as compelling and his screen presence is potent,” it added.

“Boring, flat, and such a criminal waste of Lady Gaga that we should demand a public hearing,” Indie Wire said of the film. In a review published by Variety, it was called “an overly cautious sequel” and “a musical sequel desperate to be dark and irreverent, but actually quite clumsy and earthy.”

Joker: About the movie

The first film, Joker, was a huge success, both critically and commercially, and was nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Original Score for Hildur Gudnadottir. It became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

Joaquin reprises his role as the Joker. Harry Lawty, Jacob Lofland, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener join the supporting cast. Zazie Beetz returns as Sophie from the main film. Joker: Folie a Deux will be released on October 4.
