“I grew up in this team, it was much more than football.
“It was the friendships and unwavering respect and support for each other, the tireless drive to drive global investment in women’s sports, and the defining moments of success both on and off the field. I am incredibly honored to have borrowed the shield for over 15 years. I have learned so much about myself in that time, and much of that is a credit to my teammates and our fans. I am immensely proud of the direction this team is taking, and I will always be a fan of the U.S. women’s national team,” Alex Morgan said in her statement.

Two-time Women’s World Champion Alex Morgan has announced that she is pregnant with her second child and is retiring from professional football.

Morgan, 35, will play her final game for her club team, the San Diego Wave of the National Women’s Soccer League, on Sunday at Snapdragon Stadium.
