The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a host of upgrades but the biggest improvement is in the powertrain with the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine. Compared to the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine of the previous model’s K-series, the new engine has been optimised for better fuel efficiency. As for the CNG variant, the new Z12E engine will be adapted to be compatible with dry fuel and the Swift will be the first vehicle to get this engine-CNG combination, which will also make its way to other Maruti cars in the future.

Expect to see the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG at a premium of around ₹80,000-90,000 more than the petrol variant. The automaker may introduce the Swift CNG in higher variants to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Punch. Notably, both Tata Motors and Hyundai are using two-cylinder CNG kits in their cars to provide a more useful boot in their CNG-powered cars. It will be interesting to see whether Maruti’s new Swift switches to CNG or not.
Company sales to rise with CNG powered Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024
Maruti Suzuki has the largest share in India’s CNG passenger vehicle category. The automaker had earlier revealed that CNG models contribute around 34 per cent of its total sales. This figure is expected to rise further with the new Swift CNG, which remains the preferred choice among buyers. This will also help the company achieve its target of selling 6 lakh CNG vehicles in FY25, up from 4.5 lakh units sold in FY24.
