“The 10th edition of the ET Startup Awards comes at a defining moment for this young industry, which has faced a tough few years amid a funding drought and corporate governance lapses. Those that have grown and thrived have done so by focusing on profitability, being frugal, adhering to high standards of integrity and running marathons,” said Nilekani, who is also the founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, which houses Aadhaar, the biometric identity number that has proven to be the cornerstone of a host of fintech startups.
Pointing to the growing number of economic startups that have successfully accessed public markets or will soon do so, Nilekani said he was “looking forward to seeing some outstanding young companies” at this year’s edition of ETSA.
Launched in 2015 to celebrate the nascent startup economy, ETSA has charted the ebb and flow of the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem for the past nine years.
Previous winners of the coveted Startup of the Year award such as Freshworks, Delhivery and Zomato have grown into robust publicly traded corporations, proving the mettle of new economy companies. Others such as Beater They are also about to take the IPO route.
