TikTok returns to Nepal with restrictions after a year-long ban

Nepal lifted the ban on popular social media app TikTok on Friday with some preconditions.

Nepal banned TikTok on November 12 last year, arguing that the social media platform was responsible for disturbing social harmony in the country, prompting widespread criticism from the general public.

A notice from Nepal Telecommunication, the government body, said: “This is to notify all Internet Service Providers and Mobile Service Providers that the ban imposed on TikTok has been withdrawn.”

The announcement follows a cabinet decision on August 22 that said the ban was being lifted with some preconditions.
