Fighter Vinesh Phogat Indian Railways has reportedly served Phogat with a show-cause notice after a meeting with Rahul Gandhi earlier this week. The party leaders made the claim on Friday when Phogat resigned from his post and joined the Congress ahead of the meeting. Haryana Assembly Elections.
“Vinesh Phogat has been served a notice by the railway authorities. Her only ‘crime’ was meeting Rahul Gandhi. Don’t play politics, complete the formalities to relieve her,” Congress leader KC Venugopal urged.
A PTI report citing party sources said the notice spoke of violating service rules by meeting political leaders.
The 30-year-old had announced its decision to “part ways” with Indian Railways on Friday morning. Amid growing rumours about a political debut, Phogat and fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia could now contest the upcoming state elections as Congress candidates.
Phogat also praised the party for “understanding their pain and tears” amid police action during the Jantar Mantar protests in 2023.
“I thank the Congress party…It is said that in bad times we discover who ours is.…When we were being dragged on the streets, all parties except the BJP were with us. I feel proud to have joined a party that supports women and is ready to fight from the ground up. sadak and sansad“she said.
Phogat and Punia had been leading members of the wrestlers’ protest against former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and the Wrestling Federation of India after allegations of sexual harassment surfaced.
“The fight is still going on, it is not over yet. It is in the courts. We will win that fight too… With the new platform that we are getting today, we will work in the service of the nation. The way we play our game with our hearts, we will give our best to work for our people. I want to tell my sisters that I am with them. If there is no one for you, I will be there, the Congress party will be there. I have felt it and I can assure you that we will be there for sure,” he added.
