Northern Railway officials have confirmed that wrestler Vinesh Phogat was served a show-cause notice on September 4, 2024, asking her to clarify her stand regarding joining a political party.

“When media reports surfaced that Phogat was joining the Congress party when he met Rahul Gandhi, a notice was sent to him on September 4,” an official said.

“He was asked to clarify his position because, as a government employee, joining a political party is tantamount to violating the service rules,” he added.

Congress leader KC Venugopal on Friday claimed that Phogat was served a show-cause notice after he resigned from the Railways, which Himanshu Upadhyay, CPRO, Northern Railways, denied.

Upadhyay told PTI that he was not given any notice after resigning.
