New Delhi: A Vistara flight bound for Frankfurt from Mumbai was diverted and made an emergency landing at Turkey’s Erzurum Airport on Friday.
Republic TV sources confirmed that the landing took place after a bomb threat was received. Following the warning, an emergency landing was made. Security personnel with bomb disposal equipment arrived at the airport and all passengers were allowed to disembark.
A passenger found a tissue in the lavatory of the Mumbai-Frankfurt flight with a message saying “Bomb on the plane”, after which the passenger informed the cabin crew and the captain of the plane was subsequently informed.
Following the bomb threat, the pilot made an emergency landing in Turkey. So far, nothing suspicious has been found on the flight.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said of the Vistara flight’s emergency landing: “Today, a piece of paper stating ‘there is a bomb on the plane’ was found in the toilet of the passenger plane VTI027 belonging to Vistara Airlines, which was flying from Mumbai to Frankfurt, and following this notification, the plane made an emergency landing at our Erzurum Airport at around 16:30.”
“234 passengers and 13 crew members disembarked from the aircraft without any problems. Search operations inside the aircraft are continuing with two bomb disposal experts and a search dog. AFAD, firefighters, health, security, UMKE and DHMI teams took necessary measures at the airport. Due to emergencies, landings and takeoffs are not permitted at Erzurum Airport until 21:00.”
