Mumbai Metro’s last services extended for Ganpati celebrations: Check details

Operators of Mumbai’s three metro lines have announced extension of the timings of the last services during the Ganesh festival, which began on Saturday (September 7). The extension is aimed at accommodating devotees who take part in the night walks from one pandal to another during the ten-day celebration, according to the operators.

The Mumbai Metro network includes three key corridors: Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova Metro Line 1, DN Nagar-Andheri-Dahisar East Metro Line 2A and Gundavali-Andheri-Dahisar East Metro Line 7.

Mumbai Metro One, which is responsible for Line 1, has revealed that the last train from Versova to Ghatkopar will now depart at 00:10 hrs, an hour later than the usual 23:20 hrs. On the other hand, the last train from Ghatkopar to Versova will depart at 00:40 hrs instead of 23:45 hrs.

Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL), which runs Metro Lines 2A and 7, has also adjusted its timings. For the last six days of the festival, the last metro services from Andheri West and Gundavali termini will be delayed by 30 minutes. From September 11 to 17, the last departures on both lines will be at 11.30 pm instead of the usual 11 pm.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning about possible stings from stingrays and jellyfish during the Ganesh festival idol immersions. The 10-day celebrations will conclude with the immersion of numerous large-sized idols in the Arabian Sea on September 17.

The BMC said that ahead of the start of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Fisheries Department of the Maharashtra government detected a number of dangerous fishes through “test netting”. The process conducted off the coasts of Girgaon and Dadar uncovered several species including Dhomi, Kolambi, Shingti, Blue jellyfish, Ghoda Masa and Chhote Ravas along with jellyfish and rays, PTI reported.
