The joint ventures between Tata Power and the Odisha government have placed orders worth Rs 8,690 crore from local MSMEs and Rs 2,791 crore from non-MSME companies by the Discoms during the last three years since they took over the power distribution operations in the state.

These contracts, divided into two main categories, such as materials and services, have been awarded to local contractors and suppliers.

Odisha distribution companies – TP Central, TP Southern, TP Northern and TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited have signed agreements with 6,645 local suppliers and vendors, the official said.

The company said in a statement that these collaborative partnerships serve as the backbone for daily operations and services, with a special emphasis on encouraging local suppliers to employ residents of nearby regions.

In the services sector, which covers meter reading, billing, network maintenance and others, distribution companies have awarded contracts to 4,347 suppliers worth a total of Rs 7.56 billion.

Similarly, in the category of supply of materials, including distribution transformers, cables, poles and others, distribution companies have allotted 2,298 contracts valued at Rs 3,921 crore for their operations.

Contracts in the materials sector cover essential components such as distribution transformers, cables, poles, low and high voltage hardware, laptops and desktop computers.

In the services area, contracts cover a wide range of activities, including meter installation, billing, collection, call centre operations, meter reading and administrative functions such as cleaning and catering.

“This initiative not only aligns with the vision of Make in Odisha but also plays a pivotal role in driving economic progress in Odisha. It has transformed the business landscape, contributing significantly to the economic prosperity of local communities,” the company said.
