The 2024/25 Indian domestic season has started successfully with the Duleep TrophyIndia C defeated India D and started with a win. India B has a lead of 240 runs against India A and is aiming to go past 300.

The BCCI decided to drop the zonal format and the selectors picked the best 60 players from the country. Players like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel and many other international players are playing in the tournament.

In 2004, even foreign teams were part of the Duleep Trophy. Kevin Pietersen Indian fans remained fans of his 2003/04 Duleep Trophy performance. Pietersen’s efforts were not enough as England A, now known as England Lions, lost both matches. Sadagoppan Ramesh-led South Zone chased down a massive target of 501 in England A’s first game. Venugopal Rao remained unbeaten on 228 in the chase.

Devang Gandhi-led East Zone defeated England A by 93 runs in their second match. Interestingly, MS Dhoni was also part of the match. The future India captain played as an opener and scored 76 runs. He has played only four Duleep Trophy matches in his long career.

The North Zone, led by Dinesh Mongia, defeated the East Zone in the final and won the tournament. The North Zone team included players like Gautam Gambhir, Aakash Chopra, Yuvraj Singh, Mithun Manhas, Ajay Ratra, Joginder Sharma, Sarandeep Singh, Ashish Nehra and Amit Bhandari.
