London Mayor Randall Weddle confirmed that a shooting occurred on I-75 near exit 49. According to local media reports and social media reporters, several residents were injured in the shooting. No information has yet been released about the victims or the suspect(s).
“Please avoid I-75 around Ext 49 until further notice! Use an alternate route, do not stay in that area. Avoid US Highway 25 as well as the northbound and southbound highway between London and Livingston,” Mayor Weddle said in a Facebook post.
Reacting to the reports, one local tweeted: “The incident began on Saturday afternoon with reports of shots being fired at vehicles from a wooded area.”
“London, KY authorities are now investigating the possibility of two shooters in an active shooter incident on I-75 near exit 49,” another added on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“To think I literally thought about going to London KY today with my family 😢 living in this country anymore is like playing roulette with your life, school, church, and now the interstate you never know where these crazy people are with their arms 🙁 God be with the families affected by this tragic event 🙏🙏🙏☦️,” a third person said.
London, Kentucky is a small city located in Laurel County in the southeastern part of the state. It is part of the larger Appalachian region and is the county seat of Laurel County.
