Higher calling: Telecom companies and Internet service providers to expand their workforce with government push

About 62% of telecom companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and related industries intend to expand their workforce in the first fiscal half, indicating positive hiring sentiment in these sectors, according to the report. TeamLease Services.

Among the rest, 17% will reduce their headcount, while 21% will keep it unchanged in the six months to September, the staffing firm said in a report. It noted a net reduction of 5.62%. employment growth in these sectors.

According to TeamLease, Delhi topped the list of employers expanding their workforce at existing work locations at 57%, closely followed by Bengaluru and Chennai at 53% each. Hyderabad and Bhopal topped the list of hiring for new work locations at 20% each, followed by Bengaluru, Vadodara and Jaipur at 19% each.

He added that an increase in basic customs duties on printed circuit board assembly of specific telecom equipment to incentivise domestic manufacturing, the Jan Vishwas 2.0 Bill and others will pave the way for new business models and job opportunities in the telecom sector.

TeamLease said Indian Telecom Equipment Manufacturerswhich include CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and Network Equipment (Routers, Multiplexers, Wireless Radio Equipment etc.), which are also beneficiaries of the Government’s PLI scheme, are critical to creating incremental manufacturing jobs in the sector.
