Stones pelted at protesters during Ganesh procession in Ratlam, local police district, security tightened

Ratlam: A procession carrying an idol of Lord Ganesh in Madhya Pradesh Police said on Sunday that Ratlam was attacked with stones and heavy security was deployed at important places in the city.

The incident took place in Mochipura area on Saturday evening when some people were carrying the idol of the deity for installation as part of the 10-day Ganesh festival.

Later, when police arrived at the spot, their vehicle was damaged by subsequent stone throwing, an official said.

The situation is currently under control, Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar Lodha told PTI.

He said nearly 500 people gathered at Station Road police station on Saturday evening demanding action against an unidentified person who threw a stone at the Ganesh procession in Mochipura area.

Police filed a complaint against the unidentified person and rushed to the spot to investigate. The crowd followed the police to the spot, the official said.

Someone threw a stone again and a stone-throwing attack broke the window of a police vehicle, he said.

Lodha said police were forced to use batons to disperse the crowd from the scene.

Police have been called from Jaora town in Ratlam and Dhar district and heavy security has been deployed around the town, he said.

The situation is under control, he added.
