Minister of Defence of the Union Rajnath Singh Sunday criticized National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah for his comments about the 2001 Parliament House attack convict Afzal GuruIn an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, Abdullah said that his hanging had served no purpose. On Sunday, Rajnath Singh lashed out at Abdullah and said, “Omar Abdullah recently said that Afzal Guru should not have been hanged. I ask him: Should Afzal Guru have been garlanded instead?”
The Defense Minister accused the party of aligning itself with and sympathizing with terrorists.
Addressing a rally in Ramban, Rajnath Singh also spoke about how nearly 40,000 jobs have been created in the last five years in Jammu and Kashmir under the BJP government. “The National Conference has been talking about restoring Article 370, but in the last five years, 40,000 jobs have been created,” he said.
Rajnath added that once the BJP forms the government in the region, its development efforts will be so strong that people of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) will want to join India.
“Once our government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir, we will bring about development which will make the people of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) want to become a part of India,” Singh added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be held in three phases, starting from September 18.
