11th grade student commits suicide in tribal hostel in Madhya Pradesh; inquiry panel formed

Madhya Pradesh:A class 11 student committed suicide by jumping from a hostel. The student committed suicide in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, by jumping from the fourth floor of his hostel, an official said. This happened at the government tribal hostel in Gandhwani, which is nearly 80 km from the district headquarters.

The deceased was a student of Chief Minister Rise School. “He committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the hostel building. We are investigating the reason for this extreme step,” said sub-divisional magistrate Rahul Gupta. A two-member committee, comprising the sub-district magistrate and the deputy commissioner of the tribal welfare department, will investigate the incident and further action will be taken.

Maharashtra student attempts suicide

Recently, a 10th grade student attempted suicide at the government-funded ashram school in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The 17-year-old student tried to hang herself with a scarf inside the school’s washroom. The incident occurred at a school located in Ransheth on September 2. State Tribal Project staff have been sent to the school to investigate the matter and file a report, Dahanu Project official Satyam Gandhi said.

Odisha is witnessing a lot of suicides, as many as 189 students died by suicide in Odisha in 2023, an increase of around 59 per cent compared to 119 deaths in 2021, the state Assembly was informed on Monday. Replying to a question raised by MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that as many as 481 students, including 218 boys and 263 girls, have died by suicide in the state between 2021 and 2023.
