Shiso: The New Pan-Asian Destination in Amritsar

The moment you think Amritsar The first thing that comes to mind is kulchas, chana, fruit spread and of course, the famous Golden Temple. But Amritsar is undergoing a makeover and has seen many new food destinations in the past few months, one of them being this beautiful pan-Asian place called Shiso, which is anything but ordinary. Shiso promises to bring the best modern pan-Asian cuisine to the city, offering flavours from Thailand to Japan.

Shiso is strategically located right on the Ring Road and is easily accessible to visitors from Ludhiana, Patiala and of course Amritsar. This restaurant is the first project of Vansh Aggarwal, Honey Mishra, Aftab Sidhu and Mankaran Johar who are all set to perfect the way of dining in Amritsar. Spread across a massive 8000 sq ft, the space which has been designed by Aayushi Malik from Aayushi Malik Designs There is a lot of use of wood, stone, bamboo and very interesting architectural elements.

Their bar area is sure to turn heads and there is a special table for guests looking to have an Omakase experience. And yes, don’t miss the chance to take a peek at their kitchen which is almost 6000 square feet – yes, you read that right. The outdoor seating features an open-air space with cabana-style booths.

Asian flavours on the table

The menu has been prepared by the chef. Mishra HoneyShiso is a Malaysian restaurant whose name has been known since the days of Jom Jom Malay, a Malaysian restaurant in Delhi. Shiso’s menu offers a diverse selection of Pan-Asian-inspired small plates such as the Enoki Bloom, Duck Tacos, Thai Betel Leaf Roll, Mushroom Kataifi, Prawn Crackers and Shanghai Shao Mai with Chicken and Giant Rice. For those who want to explore further, signature dishes such as the Lamb Five Spice and Seoul Chicken Pogi Kimchi Bao offer a deeper dive into the vibrant flavours of Pan-Asian cuisine. Their selection of house-made varieties includes Dan Dan Udon, Soba Yakisoba and Laksa Nyonya and don’t miss their lava stone grilled Yakitori skewers.

The bar is run by Madhav Singhal of Gastronaut Hospitality who has created the ideal pairings to complement the diversity of the restaurant’s pan-Asian menu. All of their cocktails are fermented in-house. Signature cocktails like Osaka Whiskey Sour, Tamarelo, Cherry Cherry Lady and more are sure to be a sure hit. They also have indigenous rice beer and a rice wine that is somewhat similar to soju.

The Omakase Dining Experience

This might be the first Omakase experience of its kind in Amritsar. Shiso offers an exclusive Omakase experience that includes a chef-crafted tasting menu with only a few select dishes. For the uninitiated, the Omakase experience is a chef-crafted gastronomic journey that offers a customized multi-course meal, usually including sushi or Japanese cuisine.
