New York Fashion Week is always a delight to the eyes. This year, the runways were packed with fresh ideas for our wardrobes. From chic vests to shiny metallics and playful bows, the ongoing fashion week has something for everyone. Let’s take a closer look at some of the hottest trends seen at NYFW.
Streetwear meets tailoring
Ralph Lauren’s collection reinvented tailored pieces with street-style elements, such as oversized silhouettes and denim. The most prominent trend was denim paired with tailored suits. Dresses and jackets in bright tennis white and baby blue added a sporty touch to the collection, creating a modern and avant-garde look.
Skirts with dropped waist
Prabal Gurung’s collection was a dreamlike vision, with a mix of romantic and bohemian elements. The show opened with pastel-hued dresses with fitted bodices and skirts that mimicked sarongs. The drop-waist skirt has become a key trend, as it is a flattering and feminine style that can be worn both formally and informally.
Glamour with hood
Christian Siriano’s collection screamed “gothic-inspired masterpiece.” Models were transformed into dark fairies and the glamorous hooded trend was prominent. Hooded garments were strong and elegant. Hooded garments added a mysterious element to the look. Hooded couture is now a trend, and designers are experimenting with metallic, sheer and satin garments.
Handcrafted design
Kim Shui’s collection showcased the beauty of artisanal design, with intricate details and hand-crafted elements. Sheer black dresses were transformed into sculptures of their own, with white metal floral decals carefully concealing the torso, while patent leather corsets and firm skirts featured intricate gold patterns.
Pleated skirts with pants
Laura Kim and Fernando J Garcia’s spring show opened with a deconstructed khaki vest. The collection had a back-to-school vibe and pleated skirts paired with trousers were a fresh and unexpected trend. This trend offered a playful and unexpected twist on classic tailoring, creating a modern and chic look.
