“Ponniyin Selvan” star Jayam Ravi on Monday announced that he is going ahead with the dissolution of his marriage with Aarti, his wife of 15 years, due to “personal reasons”.
Ravi, a prominent face of Tamil cinema, rose to fame across India with Mani Ratnam’s two-part period saga “Ponniyin Selvan“He played the role of the main character, Prince Arulmozhi Varman, who later became the Chola Emperor, Rajaraja I.
Aarti, daughter of well-known television producer Sujatha Vijayakumar, and Ravi got married in 2009 and have two children.
In a post on X, the 43-year-old actor said the decision was not made hastily.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share a deeply personal update with you all. After much thought, reflection and discussion, I have made the difficult decision to proceed with the dissolution of my marriage to Aarti. This decision was not made in haste and is due to personal reasons that I believe are in the best interest of all involved,” the actor said in a post.
Ravi said he decided to share the news with his fans because he has always strived to be “as transparent and honest” as possible with fans and the media. The actor asked for privacy and urged them not to engage in rumors and accusations.
“…I hereby kindly request all of you to respect our privacy as well as that of our family members during this difficult time, and I ask you all to refrain from making assumptions, rumors or accusations in this regard and let the matter remain private (sic),” he posted.
The actor, son of veteran film editor A Mohan, is known for films like “Jayam”, “Daas”, “Mazhai”, “Bommarillu”, “Peranmai”, “Romeo Juliet”, “Bhoomi” and “Siren”.
