UP 69000 Teacher Hiring Case, Supreme Court Suspends High Court Decision

UP Teachers Recruitment: The Supreme Court has stayed the Allahabad High Court’s order asking the UP government to prepare a fresh selection list of 69,000 assistant teachers in the state. The Supreme Court has stayed the High Court’s order cancelling the Uttar Pradesh teachers’ selection lists released in June 2020 and January 2022, which included 6,800 candidates.

The High Court had ordered the Yogi government to make the list public again.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has ordered preparation of a fresh list, ignoring the selection list released in June 2020 and the selection list of 6,800 candidates dated January 5, 2022, for appointment of 69,000 teachers under the Assistant Teachers Recruitment Examination (ATRE) in Uttar Pradesh. The order was given to the Yogi Adityanath government. Earlier, the single bench had reconsidered the selection list of 69,000 candidates and rejected the selection list of 6,800 candidates dated January 5, 2022.

Rahul Gandhi attacked the Yogi government

Rahul Gandhi had fiercely attacked the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh after the teachers’ recruitment case and the High Court order. The Congress MP had posted on ‘X’ that the Allahabad High Court’s decision on the recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers is a befitting response to the conspiracies of the BJP government which is tinkering with the reservation system. This is not only the victory of thousands of youth like Amit Maurya, who have been continuously fighting on the streets in winter, summer and rain for five years, but also that of every warrior fighting for social justice. He had alleged that the BJP’s insistence on snatching away reservation has plunged the future of hundreds of innocent candidates into darkness.

Supreme Court issued notice to UP government

Staying the High Court’s decision, a bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra also issued notices to the state government and the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board, including others, on the petition filed by Ravi Kumar Saxena and 51 others. The Supreme Court said it will hold the final hearing of this case on September 25. The court has asked the lawyers of the interested parties to file brief written notes of maximum seven pages. The court said it will schedule the hearing on the petition in the week commencing September 23.
