The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a chargesheet against four accused in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case in Bengaluru, Karnataka. According to the NIA, the accused have been identified as Musavir Hussain Shajib, Abdul Mathin Ahmed Taha, Maaz Munir Ahmed and Muzammil Sharif. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A), Explosive Substances Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.
The NIA began investigating the case on March 3.
The four accused have already been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. In fact, on March 1, nine people were injured in an IED blast at Rameshwaram Cafe, Brookfield, located at ITPL in Bengaluru, and the hotel property was also severely damaged. The NIA started investigating this case on March 3. The agency conducted several technical and field investigations in collaboration with different state police forces and other agencies.
Two arrested in Bengal 42 days after blast
Investigation revealed that a person named Shajib had planted the bomb. He and Taha were on the run since 2020 after the first Al-Hind module was dismantled. The NIA launched a massive search operation and arrested the duo from their hideout in West Bengal 42 days after the blast.
Both defendants were associated with ISIS.
Both the accused, hailing from Shivamogga district of Karnataka, were ISIS radicals and had earlier hatched dangerous plots in ISIS areas in Syria. They were actively involved in converting other innocent Muslim youth to the ISIS ideology. Maaz Munir Ahmed and Muzammil Sharif were among such youth.

According to the NIA, Taha and Shajib had used fraudulently obtained Indian SIM cards and bank accounts. They also used different Indian and Bangladeshi identity documents downloaded from the dark web. The investigation also revealed that a former criminal named Shoaib Ahmed Mirza had introduced Taha to Mohammad Shaheed Faisal, who was absconding in the Bengaluru Lashkar-e-Taiba conspiracy case. Taha then introduced his handler Faisal to Mehboob Pasha, an accused in the Al-Hind ISIS module case and to Khaja Mohidin, the emir of ISIS in South India, and later also to Maaz Munir Ahmed.
A bomb blast was planned at the BJP office.Taha and Shajib were funded by their managers through cryptocurrency. Which Taha had converted into fiat with the help of various Telegram-based P2P platforms. Investigation has revealed that the accused had used this money to carry out several incidents of violence in Bengaluru. Among them, a plan was made to carry out a blast at the Bharatiya Janata Party state office in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru on January 22, 2024, the day of the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, which was unsuccessful. Following this, the two main accused had planned the Rameshwaram Café blast. Further investigations into the matter are underway.
