Landslide amid heavy rains in Sonprayag, 5 dead

Uttarakhand News: There are reports of landslides amid heavy rains in Sonprayag, Uttarakhand. 5 people have died in this accident. Relief work is underway here. Due to this, passengers passing by the spot became victims of the accident. Five people have died and three injured have been rescued.

According to information received from the police, the rescue and relief operation which was halted on Monday evening due to bad weather, snowfall, darkness and continuous falling of debris and stones at the spot, was resumed in the morning. During this time, the bodies of four more devotees, including three women, were pulled out from the debris. The campaign is still going on. Police said the bodies recovered in the morning were identified as Durgabai Khapar (50), a resident of Nepalali in Ghat district of Madhya Pradesh, Titli Devi Mandal (70), a resident of Vaidehi village in Dhanwa district of Nepal, Jhijhora a resident of Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, Wali Samanbai (50) and Bharat Bhai Niralal (52), a resident of Khatodara, Surat, Gujarat.

A body was found on Monday night.

Earlier on Monday evening, the body of Gopalji (50), a resident of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh, was recovered from the spot of the incident, while three other injured devotees were pulled out from the debris and taken to the hospital. Gopalji’s brother Chhagan Lal (45) is also among the injured. At the time of the accident, a group of pilgrims was returning after visiting Kedarnath Dham. As soon as information about the accident was received, teams of police, State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force reached the spot and began rescue and relief work.

CM Dhami expressed his condolences

Meanwhile, the road blocked by the landslides has been opened for walking. Police said the passengers stopped towards Gaurikund are being sent safely towards Sonprayag. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences for those killed in the incident.
