In a post by X, Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle (APPSC), a study body, shared an official report Bombay Institute of Technology The study group sent an email highlighting an invitation to a webinar on chemistry research programs at Israel’s Bar-Ilan International School. The study group expressed concern about the administration’s continued collaborations with Israeli universities.

The students have written to the Secretary General of Academic Affairs (GSAA) in Bombay Institute of Technology,
expressing concern.
“In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine and the accusations of genocide leveled against Israel by international bodies such as the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, I feel compelled to raise an issue of significant ethical concern,” the students wrote in a letter.
They added that it is time to reflect on relations with institutions that are “complicit in actions that violate human rights.”
“Israeli universities, many of which have been closely linked to state policies and actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, are in direct opposition to the values of justice, equality and human dignity that we hold dear,” the letter reads.
He also urged Bombay Institute of Technology reconsider and divest from any collaboration or exchange with Israeli universities, in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“This is not only a moral obligation but also a significant act of support for those facing oppression,” the letter states.
The letter was in response to an earlier notice from IIT-Bombay regarding funded research opportunities in Chemistry: MSc, PhD and Postdoc at Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
Meanwhile, some IIT-Bombay students have stated that the motive behind these collaborations is different and that these matters should be kept separate from socio-political issues.
A final year student of the institute told The Indian Express, “These collaborations are solely for the academic upliftment of students, there is no ill will and we must understand that. Israel is a leading country in technology and research and these collaborations are to help us. If such a decision was required, the government would have taken it and IIT-Bombay would have implemented it. This is for the advancement of technology and academia.”
