Origin launches operations in Bengaluru, plans to raise $10 million in funding | Start Ups

Bengaluru-based tech startup Origin officially launched its operations in the city at a press event today. The firm said it ensures delivery of over 250 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs and exotic produce within 12 hours of harvest. It also plans to raise $10 million in funding in the next three months.

Origin introduces Omnichannel Pay, which seamlessly integrates offline, online and fast commerce delivery modes to serve a diverse customer base. According to the company, there has been a growing trend towards online shopping for everyday groceries, particularly fruits (63%) and vegetables (57%), which top the preference lists.

“By delivering produce within 12 hours of harvest, we are reinventing the way consumers experience fruits and vegetables, without compromising on quality or variety. With over 250 options and our ‘Fresh or Nothing’ commitment, we are combining technology with direct partnerships with farmers to not only ensure maximum freshness, but also to create a meaningful impact in local farming communities,” said Prashanth Vasan, CEO of Origin.

The fresh tech platform aims to improve the customer experience through convenient delivery, consistent quality, and a wide selection of fresh produce. By leveraging predictive demand technology and direct partnerships with local farmers, Origin ensures fast delivery of fresh produce.

The brand currently offers next-day and same-day delivery in key areas of the city, and its app is available on both the Play Store and App Store. Origin will soon be adding hyperlocal 20-minute deliveries and offline experience stores in key areas of the city.

Additionally, Origin has around 15,000 farmers in its ecosystem and plans to hire around 10,000 more by December 2024. There are plans to hire 300 employees, taking its total headcount to 400 across operations, technology, procurement, marketing, and other divisions in the next two months. This expansion supports its goal of reaching 2.5 million active users in Bengaluru and nearby areas of Karnataka.

Origin plans to open 40 stores to handle 400-500 orders per store within a couple of months. These stores will be set up in Indiranagar, Jayanagar, HSR, Sarjapur and other areas.
