NIA raid in West Bengal: Haldia (West Bengal) – In connection with the investigation into the murder of BJP President Vijay Krishna Bhuiyan (55) at Mayna village in Godamahal, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted raids at 14 locations in Purba Medinipur. These raids were carried out at the locations of local Trinamool Congress leaders and workers in Mayna, Bakcha and Godamahal. The NIA operation began early on Tuesday. Around 200 NIA officials and employees were involved in the drive. Central Armed Police personnel were also with him at that time.
Raids on houses of nine accused Trinamool leaders and workers
Officials reached the residences of nine Trinamool leaders and workers, who were among the accused named in the FIR registered in connection with the murder of BJP leader Vijay Krishna Bhuiyan. The doors of the houses of five of them were locked. Those five houses have been sealed by the NIA and notices have been pasted on the doors. The houses of Trinamool leaders Buddhadev Mandal, Swapan Bhowmik, Manoranjan Hazra, Soumitra Mandal and Shubhendu Bhowmik are said to have been sealed. Apart from this, search operations were also carried out at the locations of Trinamool leaders Kamal Khutia, Mohan Mandal, Sujit Kar, Nav Kumar Mandal and Amitabh Bhanj. They were not at their houses during the campaign. Their family members have been questioned.
What is the problem?
Ahead of the Panchayat elections in the state in the year 2023, the body of BJP president Vijay Krishna Bhuiyan was recovered from the river bank in Godamahal village. The first case was being investigated by the police at Mayna police station. However, on the directions of the Calcutta High Court, the NIA took over the investigation of the case.
