Elephant carcass found in Lathikata’s Nuagaan, fears of electric shock

Rourkela News: A female elephant died on Tuesday due to illegal power connection at Nuagaan of Lathikata block. Her age is estimated to be around 12 years. The female elephant had gone out in search of food. It is feared that she may have died after coming in contact with the wire installed for illegal power connection. Following this incident, anger is being seen among the villagers of the area. After receiving the information, the forest department team reached the spot and made arrangements to recover the body of the elephant and send it for post-mortem. The Forest Department team is also busy investigating the incident. This accident occurred due to her coming in contact with this 11 KB wire. Regarding which the villagers are making various kinds of allegations. Here, in reply to a question in the Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister for Forest and Environment said that 41 elephants have been killed by poachers in the state in the last decade. At the same time, 719 elephants have died due to other causes during this period. This figure has now reached 720 following the death of an elephant here on Tuesday.

Accident occurred due to illegal connection of 11 KB to brick factory

Preliminary investigations revealed that an 11 KB power connection had been given to a brick kiln located in the area. This caused the elephant to die. The power cable had reached the brick kiln through the fields. According to the villagers, there are more elephants in the nearby forest.

DFO arrived at the scene with the team

After receiving information about the incident, a team of forest department officials, including DFO Yashwant Sethi, reached the spot. According to the Forest Department, a team will arrive from Bhubaneswar to investigate the death of the elephant. The cause of death is being investigated by the Livestock Department along with the Forest Department.
