It is not always easy to pick the Indian starting XI given the huge competition in the squad and the selectors will have a tough task when they pick the starting XI for the first match against Bangladesh. Most of the starting XI is more or less confirmed but there will be some candidates for a couple of spots which the selectors will have to decide on. Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul They will compete for the number five spot.

Sarfaraz Khan had a remarkable series against England but Rahul is one of the key pillars of the Test team. He has had his ups and downs of late but given his stature and past performances, he is likely to get a nomination ahead of Khan, who has also been named in the Duleep Trophy squad for the second match, which is a big hint for Rahul’s selection in the first Test.

Former India cricketer and chief selector Kris Srikkanth said he feels bad about Sarfaraz but backed the decision to put Rahul on the field instead of the youngster. He also believes that RISHABH PANTS will be preferred over Dhruv Jurel in the first test.

“Honestly, I feel bad for Sarfaraz Khan. But this happens sometimes in Test cricket. One might have played well but when a big player comes back, he will have to lose his place. For example, Rishabh Pant is coming back so Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan are losing their places. KL Rahul is coming in,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

The choice of KL Rahul over Sarfaraz could also be inspired by the fact that India has a tough tour of Australia in November and Rahul, being one of the more experienced players, would have a pivotal role. Srikkanth highlighted Rahul’s track record overseas and said that he is a better player and deserves a chance ahead of Sarfaraz.

“In the back of their minds, they also have the Australia series in mind. New Zealand is also coming up. KL Rahul has performed well overseas, in Australia he has done well,” Srikkanth added.
