KEY POINTS

  • They could rest for the series.

India will begin a long Test season with the series against Bangladesh. The Test season includes 2 matches against Bangladesh, 3 matches against New Zealand and 5 matches against Australia. India will enter the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand as favourites while it will be difficult for them to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

India will also play three T20Is against Bangladesh after the Test matches. The Test regulars might not play the T20I matches. Shubman Gill to RISHABH PANTSHere we take a look at 4 players who could be rested for the T20I series against Bangladesh:

Shubman Gill

Shubman is likely to be rested for the T20I series against Bangladesh despite being recently named vice-captain of the white-ball teams. India have a long Test season ahead of them, in which they are scheduled to play 10 matches. The next T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in 2026 and the regulars can skip the shorter format regularly.

Shubman had a chance of being included in the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup but failed to make it. The right-handed batsman travelled to the Caribbean islands as a reserve player.

RISHABH PANTS

Rishabh Pant has been named in the squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh and is all but set to make his comeback in the starting XI. Rishabh is India’s first-choice wicket-keeper and is likely to play all 10 Test matches. His workload will be controlled and Rishabh is expected to play only Test cricket till the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Akhar Patel

Axar Patel is now part of Team India in all three formats and it is important to manage his workload. While Axar might not get a chance in the starting XI in Australia, he is likely to be selected. Axar will be on tour for a long time with Team India and the selectors might rest him for the T20Is against Bangladesh.

Mohammed Siraj

The last time India toured Australia, Mohammed Siraj made his Test debut and led the pace attack in the fourth match. Siraj is a key player of the Indian Test team and his workload will be monitored ahead of the Australia tour. He is unlikely to be named in the T20I squad for the Bangladesh series.
