The doctor’s father claimed that when Mamata Banerjee went to his house after the incident, she asked for compensation and then publicly announced that her government was willing to give him Rs 10 lakh to build something in memory of his daughter.

Asked if he supported the 33-day strike by junior doctors, which has led to the collapse of health services in the state, the victim’s father said: We can understand the pain and suffering of the patients, but one must also understand that the doctors are fighting for a larger cause. He said that the job of a doctor is to treat patients and operate on them. But now they have come out on the streets and their movement is receiving support from everyone, irrespective of their social status. We support them wholeheartedly.
