Rourkela News: Despite the normal arrival of potatoes, the city residents are getting them only at the rate of Rs 33 per kg. While potatoes are sold in bulk at Rs 2,600 per quintal. The sellers are offering potatoes to the consumers at a profit of Rs 7 per kg. Despite this, it is not being monitored by the Civil Supplies Office. Recently, due to the reduction in the arrival of potatoes, their price had increased drastically. As a result, the price of potato went up from Rs 45 to Rs 50. After which, on the initiative of the government, potatoes were distributed at the rate of Rs 33 per kg through the government ration shops. This situation was due to the insignificant arrival of potatoes from West Bengal. But now the wholesalers say that the arrival of potatoes has normalized.

Consumers do not benefit from falling potato prices

Dilip Sahu, a wholesaler of potatoes and onions in the daily market, says that currently potatoes are being sold in bulk at the rate of Rs 2,600 per quintal. Usually, there is a difference of Rs 4-5 between the prices of potatoes in the retail market and the wholesale market, but in the smart city this difference is as much as Rs 7. Despite the reduction in potato prices, common consumers are not getting any significant benefit from it. The price at which the state government was providing potatoes has now been fixed and it is being retailed at Rs 33.

Green vegetables are also expensive, with cauliflower and capsicum costing Rs 80 per kg.

Even after the monsoon rains have stopped, the vegetable market is still booming. Except bottle gourd and cucumber, no vegetable is available at less than Rs 40 per kg. Currently, cauliflower and capsicum are being sold at Rs 80 per kg in the city vegetable market. While the price of other vegetables ranges between Rs 40 and Rs 60.
