KEY POINTS

  • England to take on Australia in second T20I in Cardiff
  • Australia leads the series 1-0
  • Phil Salt leads England in T20I series

The Mitchell Marsh-led Australian side will take on Phil Salt’s England in the second T20I of the three-match series on Friday (September 13). The match will be played at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff from 11:00 pm (AEST). With a win in the first T20I, Australia has a 1-0 lead and another win here will see them clinch the series.

Travis Head Head shone in the match and delivered a Man of the Match performance. The left-handed batsman hit a brilliant 59 off just 23 balls. With a strike rate of 256.52, Head hit 4 sixes and 8 boundaries in his knock.

He added a crucial 86-run partnership for the first wicket with Matthew Short, who scored 41 off 26 balls. Australia dropped Jake Fraser-McGurk from the starting XI and gave the opening job to Short.

With the exception of the openers and Josh Inglis (37 off 27), none of the other batsmen managed to breach the 20-run mark. Australia were bowled out for 179 in 19.3 overs.

England got off to a mediocre start and lost the wicket of Will Jacks in the second over. The home side continued to lose wickets and were bowled out for 151 in 19.2 overs.

Sean Abbott took 3 wickets, while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa got two wickets each. Given their performance in the first T20I, Australia will go into the second match as favourites.
