US diplomats arrive in Bangladesh for talks with interim government | World News

A key US State Department diplomat arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday for talks with the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, focusing mainly on financial and trade issues.

Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, is leading a delegation to Dhaka that also includes Brandon Lynch, deputy US trade representative for South and Central Asia, news portal bdnews24.com reported, citing a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to meeting Yunus to discuss bilateral issues, the delegation will also meet Finance and Trade Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, the statement said.

Foreign adviser Touhid Hossain said the discussions would focus mainly on financial and trade issues.

On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin told reporters: “I can only say that the arrival of the US delegation after the formation of the interim government reflects the importance that the US attaches to its relationship with Bangladesh.”
