IndiGo Mumbai-Doha flight cancelled; several passengers faint due to intense heat and suffocation

An IndiGo flight 6E 1303 scheduled to operate between Mumbai and Doha on Sunday has been cancelled due to technical reasons owing to prolonged delay, an IndiGo spokesperson said.

IndiGo Airlines issued an apology and said customers are being provided hotels and rebooked based on their final destination.

Video of the incident, which occurred on Thursday on Flight 6E 2235, shows passengers in complete disarray.

Several passengers reportedly fainted due to the intense heat and suffocation, while others were seen using magazines to cool themselves.

IndiGo Airlines’ press release reads, “IndiGo Flight 6E 1303 operating from Mumbai to Doha was delayed due to a technical snag. Our airport team immediately assisted the affected customers and provided them with refreshments and necessary arrangements. The aircraft attempted to take off for its destination a couple of times but eventually had to be cancelled due to the prolonged delay on account of several procedural delays. Hotels are being provided to the customers and they are being re-accommodated as per their final destination. IndiGo sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused to its customers.”

On September 7, IndiGo Airlines issued an apology after passengers onboard the Delhi-Varanasi flight faced difficulties after the aircraft’s air conditioning system malfunctioned and led to chaotic conditions on the plane. Responding to the entire issue, sources within IndiGo claimed that the air conditioning was working properly but a change in temperature caused the cabin to heat up, leading to panic among passengers. “We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on 5 September 2024,” a press release from the airlines read.

“The discomfort was attributed to fluctuations in cabin temperature, which were adjusted in response to passenger requests. Our cabin crew immediately provided assistance to the affected passenger to address the situation,” the statement added.
