Saleema Imtiaz becomes the first Pakistani woman to be nominated to the ICC Development Panel of Umpires

Saleema Imtiaz has become the first Pakistani woman to be nominated to the ICC’s international development umpires panel, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Sunday.

Imtiaz’s nomination to the panel means she is now eligible to officiate in women’s bilateral international matches and ICC women’s events.

“This is not just a victory for me, it is a victory for all aspiring female cricketers and umpires in Pakistan,” Imtiaz said in a statement. “I hope my success motivates countless women who dream of making their mark in the sport.

“This moment reflects the growing influence of women in cricket and the PCB’s commitment to fostering that development.”

Imtiaz’s daughter Kainat played 40 international matches for Pakistan, including 19 One-Day Internationals and 21 T20s.

Imtiaz said he had always wanted to make his own name in the field of refereeing ever since his daughter made her international debut against South Africa in 2010.

“My dream was to represent my country at international level,” Imtiaz said. “I got opportunities in the Asian Cricket Council, but umpiring at the highest level was always my main goal.”

Imtiaz joined the PCB’s panel of women umpires in 2008 and has umpired in several ACC tournaments over the past three years.

Imtiaz’s first on-field appointment in a bilateral series will see her officiate the three-match T20 series between Pakistan Women and South Africa Women that begins in Multan from Monday.
