Akash Chopra has made a startling admission and said that Gautama Gambhir He was their competitor and not a friend. The former opening batsmen used to play together for Delhi. They also opened the innings for India, but on different occasions. Aakash made his debut for India in 2003. Gambhir played his first Test match in 2004.
Both served the Delhi Cricket Team For a long time. In an interview with Raj Shamani’s YouTube channel, Aakash opened up about his relationship with Gambhir and made a shocking confession.
“We were competitors initially. To be honest, he wasn’t a friend but he was a very passionate guy, very hardworking and very serious about his craft. And he scored a lot of runs. But he always wore his heart on his sleeve, he was extremely passionate and could lose his temper very quickly in terms of temper,” Aakash said.
“We are competitors because we were fighting for a spot. Our team was very good. When we were playing, only Kohli and Dhawan got a chance to play. The team was like that. In fact, there was no place for Viru to open the batting. Viru batted four so that we could accommodate Shikhar and Virat at No. 3.”
Aakash played 10 Test matches for India between 2003 and 2004. Gambhir replaced Aakash in the starting XI and played his first Test match against Australia. Aakash continued to play domestic cricket and attempted to make a comeback to India.
Aakash had a legendary career in first-class cricket and amassed 10,839 runs in 162 matches. He left Delhi towards the end of his career and joined Rajasthan. He also represented Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket.
Aakash retired from domestic cricket in 2015. He played his last first-class match in 2012. He started commentating after his retirement and is now one of the main faces in the commentary booth.
