Seven students from a state-owned company engineering university in OrissaBerhampur district was expelled from its Hostel for supposedly cooking beef“restricted” activity at the premises, an official said Monday.

Parala Maharaja Engineering College authorities issued an order on Thursday, stating that the seven boarders of two hostels were expelled for being involved in “restrictive activities.”

One of the seven students was fined Rs 2,000. The university authorities have also communicated the decision to the parents of the students, he said. According to the official, the expelled students cooked beef in their dormitory room on Wednesday, violating the rules and code of conduct of the institution.

“A section of university students brought the incident to the attention of the director of the institution. Action was taken against the students after an investigation,” the official said.

Bajrang Dal and VHP activists demanded that stern action be taken against erring students. In view of the situation, a police team was deployed near the college campus and hostels to prevent any untoward incident.
