Germany: Massive explosion at the entrance of a Cologne restaurant, police launch a large-scale operation

Police are carrying out an operation following an explosion in central Cologne, the Bild newspaper reported on Monday. Local police reported on social media network X that a police operation was underway on the Hohenzollernring ring road and that residents should avoid the area.

In a video of the incident that went viral on social media, a person can be seen placing the explosive. The person, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, probably to hide his face, fled the scene.

A bomb reportedly exploded at the entrance to a restaurant in the German city of Cologne on Monday morning. A cleaning worker reportedly survived the detonation with blast trauma and is currently hospitalized. According to a DW News report, the area where the bomb exploded is known for its nightlife and is full of bars and restaurants.

DW also quoted a fire official as saying that they had been called to the scene, but that no firefighting work was necessary.
