Bengaluru Real Challengers (RCB) have been competing in the Indian Premier League (LPI) since its inception in 2008. But it’s been 16 years and the popular franchise has yet to win a trophy in the money-filled tournament. They’ve made it to the finals a total of three times in their history, but have failed each time. So on the auspicious day of Ganesh ChaturthiA viral video on the Internet from a die-hard fan caught the attention of netizens.
In the video, the RCB fan was carrying a piece of paper, on which the Bengaluru franchise’s signature slogan, ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde (This year the cup is ours)’ was written, and placed it in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha. Like any other RCB fan, this particular fan desperately wants to see his team break the jinx and with the kind of performance they have shown, people will naturally look to God for some hope.

In the 2024 edition, RCB came close to clinching their first IPL trophy. They booked a playoff spot by defeating the Chennai Super Kings in their final group stage encounter. Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, the team put up a solid challenge but were eventually defeated by the Rajasthan Royals in the knockout stage, ending their run.
Despite the disappointment, RCB fans remain staunchly behind Virat Kohli and the team. A key figure for the franchise since its inception in 2008, Kohli led the team as captain from 2013 to 2021. During his tenure, RCB reached the IPL playoffs on four occasions, though the championship has remained out of reach. Fans’ confidence in Kohli and the team’s ability fuels optimism at the start of every season.
While preparing for the IPL 2025 Next season, RCB is all set to revamp its squad. With the mega auction scheduled to take place between December this year and February 2025, the team is likely to bring in new talents.
