India’s Ministry of External Affairs has issued a strongly worded statement in response to the Iranian Supreme Leader’s remarks on minorities in India. In the statement, India expressed its disapproval of the comments, calling them “ill-informed and unacceptable.” The ministry stressed that such comments were not based on accurate information and advised nations to first reflect on their own track record regarding minorities before passing judgment on others.
The government stressed that it would not tolerate any misrepresentation of its treatment of minorities, implicitly suggesting that Iran should look inward before making such remarks.
“We strongly condemn the comments made by Iran’s Supreme Leader on minorities in India. They are incorrect and unacceptable. Countries making comments on minorities are advised to examine their own track record before making comments on others,” said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

This official stance comes in a context of diplomatic sensitivities between the two countries, demonstrating India’s firm response to external criticism on its internal affairs.
Earlier in the day, Khamenei highlighted the “suffering” of Muslims in regions such as India, Gaza and Myanmar, urging greater solidarity among global communities.
“We cannot consider ourselves Muslims if we are not aware of the suffering of a Muslim in #Myanmar, #Gaza, #India or anywhere else,” the Iranian leader said in his post on X.
