Flooding situation in Tarapith, crematorium drowned

Birbhum.

Due to low pressure in Bengal, it has been raining continuously for the last few days, due to which there is a danger of flooding in many parts of the state. Due to continuous rains, many kutcha houses have collapsed in many parts of Birbhum district and the water level of the Dwarka river has risen in Tarapith of the district. This situation has arisen due to the release of water from the dam several times. The large cremation ground at Tarapith has been submerged by the water of the Dwarka river. At the same time, the coastal areas and surrounding low-lying areas of the river have also been submerged. Many parts of the cremation ground are submerged in knee-deep water. Due to this, the normal life of saints and sages has been disturbed. Devotees are worried as their place of residence is sinking. Not only the saints but also the traders of the cremation grounds are facing many problems. Trade and commercial activities are virtually at a standstill. Local traders fear that if the water level in Dwarka rises further, there will be flooding and their business and source of livelihood will also be closed. People in areas near the Dwarka river are also worried. Though local businessmen are trying to find a way out of the problem, the situation is getting worse. The situation is more or less the same in Gangte and many surrounding villages under Siuri-02 Block Panchayat of the district. On the other hand, the temporary Jaidev ferry on the Ajay river in Birbhum broke down again and was washed away. Earlier the boat had capsized here due to torrential rains. Through this ferry, a shortcut is adopted to go from Birbhum to areas like Kankasa, Durgapur etc. The Asitranjan bridge near Sauje village in Mallarpur district police station area was also completely submerged. It has long been known as an important bridge between Mayureshwar and Mallarpur. This is an important bridge and road for the local population, through which people from Sojai, West Ramchandrapur, Muruldanga and surrounding villages could move easily. The bridge was submerged since Sunday following heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday.

The bridge remained submerged even on Monday morning. People living on both banks of the river are facing a lot of inconvenience. Many local people have to commute between Mallarpur and Mayureshwar. People who have to cross this bridge every day for work or other important reasons are now in trouble as they have to spend a lot of time and money in using alternative routes. At 9 am on Monday, the local administration also confirmed that the bridge had submerged. Though no concrete steps have been taken to control the situation yet, the administration is closely monitoring the situation. To avoid any untoward incident, traffic has been stopped from the bridge. The situation is expected to normalise once the water level of the Dwarka river recedes.
