Following the incident at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, many serious questions have been raised regarding the security of government hospitals and health centres in the state. Meanwhile, a new committee has been formed for the security of the campuses of the Purulia Medical College and the Deven Mahato Government Hospital. If sources in the Health Department are to be believed, the Medical College Chairman, Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, representatives of nurses and junior doctors, Additional District Governor, Sub-Divisional Officer and the in-charge of Purulia Sadar Police Station and Mofussil Police Station have a place in the new committee. According to information received from the Health Department, this committee has become active regarding the security of both the Purulia Medical College campuses. Meanwhile, information has been taken regarding the toilets of doctors and health workers. Also, more police personnel have been deployed on both the campuses than before. It has been decided to install around 700 new CCTV cameras on both the campuses. 38 CCTV cameras have already been installed on the Sadar Hospital campus and 104 CCTV cameras on the Hantuara Medical College campus. This number is increasing. Also, details of the employees of the private organisation deployed for security have been taken and recorded. Apart from this, the committee members will visit both the campuses from time to time and review the security arrangements.
