Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal launched the AI and ML-based trademark search technology and IP chatbot Saarthi in New Delhi. According to an official statement, during the launch event, Goyal said that the search technology will enable faster processing of trademark applications in a more efficient and accurate manner. He also hoped that the platform would resolve trademark-related disputes and proposed that the inclusion of official languages in the updated versions would make this search module a benchmark in the world.
Referring to the launch of the search module and IP chatbot, the Minister noted that the quality of patent filings will also improve and said that the Government is looking to integrate AI and ML-based technology for faster approval of designs. The Minister also highlighted that AI tools operated by the Government should be device-friendly across all user interfaces and diverse technological devices for faster adoption.
Goyal said that patent filing by women has seen a transformative change in the last decade. The Minister stressed that the decision to reduce patent fees by 80% for start-ups, SMEs, women entrepreneurs, individuals and academic institutions was taken to encourage innovators.
Commenting on the five technology-enabled service launches within a week – Trade Connect e-platform, Jan Sunwai portal, ECGC’s new online services portal along with a revamped in-house SMILE-ERP system, BHASKAR (the one-stop shop for everything a startup needs) and trademark search technology – Goyal underlined the Government’s commitment towards ease of doing business. On the rise of artificial intelligence, he said that it will become an existential tool, hence there is a need for faster adoption of the newer technology in day-to-day work for better outcomes.
The new technology has several key benefits, including enhanced trademark protection capabilities, faster search methods for domestic and foreign companies, and sophisticated artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for accurate trademark identification.
Quoting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Goyal said that the 3 I’s of India – Intelligence, Idea and Innovation – are the identity of the youth who are recognised for their skills and talent across the world. He asserted that the Government will equally contribute to making India a Viksit Bharat by 2047. It is not a mere dream, it is a collective commitment of 1.4 billion Indians to make India a developed nation by 2047, he said.
In conclusion, Goyal urged the participants to keep innovating and improvising and expressed hope that Indian solutions will become a benchmark in the coming years.
