Flexible contracting industry sees 5.2% QoQ and 18.5% YoY job growth in April-June 2024

The flexible staffing industry grew 5.2% in the April-June quarter of 2024 and 18.5% year-on-year, adding 2.2 lakh new workers, according to Flexible staff Industry Employment growth report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 by the Indian Staff Federationthe industry’s peak body representing the workforce outsourcing industry.

The rise in employment was particularly notable in key sectors such as FMCG, e-commerce, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, logistics, banking, energy, etc., according to the report released on Thursday.

New job Growth in overall flexible staffing (excluding IT flexible staffing) has been the highest in the past two quarters. After a long pause, even the IT Staffing Industry witnessed positive quarterly and year-on-year growth in Q1 FY24-25 and 1.4% year-on-year (Q1 FY25 vs Q1 FY24) respectively.

The formal total flexible workforce The number of employees by Indian Staffing Federation members reached 1.7 million flexible workers by the end of Q1 2024-25. The figures reported on new flexible jobs by Indian Staffing Federation represent the combined contribution of General Flexible Staffing and IT Flexible Staffing industries.

Lohit Bhatia, President, Staffing Federation of India, said, “The Q1 FY25 report reflects that the flexible staffing industry has maintained a strong double-digit growth trend. Additionally, the overall staffing segment has shown a strong performance with a remarkable 19.1% year-on-year growth. This significant increase in new hires is a driving force behind the growth of the flexible staffing industry. Job opportunities “This indicates renewed momentum in the market as hiring activity picked up in the first quarter of 2024-25, following a period of slower previous quarters. The industry is experiencing increased job demands across several sectors, reflecting a positive shift in market dynamics.”


According to Manmeet Singh, Vice President, Indian Staffing Federation, “The IT staffing industry has seen a positive turnaround. After a strong performance in Q2 of 2023-24, the industry faced some challenges in Q3 and Q4. However, we are seeing a gradual growth in new demands, particularly within the GCC and some IT services companies in Q1 of 2025. This demand is primarily driven by digital adoption and ongoing government infrastructure projects, along with the emergence of new industries. Within the IT sector, Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are leading the way in creating new employment opportunities.”
