A short video of an American expat in India recently went viral on Instagram. In the video, Dana reveals that she takes her toddler to a pub after preschool. She mentioned that it is one of the things she does in India but “didn’t do abroad.” The clip shows the little one and her mother during a daytime outing at a place in Bengaluru, savouring the food and enjoying the cheerful atmosphere of the place. In the caption, Dana explains the factors that allow her to take her child with her and what makes it different from pubs abroad.

First, Dana acknowledges that “almost every Indian pub” has a wide variety of non-alcoholic cocktails and/or fresh juices, which provides options for those who don’t drink alcohol. She doesn’t drink herself, as the caption indicates. She then points out that many pubs in Bangalore are open-air and don’t allow smoking of any kind. However, she mentions that “the same is not true in many parts of India.” A smoking ban would make a place more kid-friendly, naturally. But that’s not all. “Pubs in Bangalore are usually very nice environments. This one has fish ponds all around, which is fun for the little ones,” Dana writes. Some places seem to go beyond this too. The mother says that some organize activities for kids on the weekends, and that she has also attended a child’s birthday party at a pub in the past.
