Rupee steady at 83.96 per dollar in early trade

Early trade: The rupee remained stable at 83.96 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday amid weak trend in the US currency.

Forex traders said a sluggish trend in domestic stock markets amid heavy foreign capital outflow in the last three sessions limited the rupee’s gains.

In the interbank forex market, the rupee opened at 83.96 per dollar in early trade, which is equivalent to its previous closing price.

The rupee had fallen by 14 paise to close at 83.96 against the US dollar on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the US dollar’s position against six major currencies, was down 0.05 percent at 101.69.

Brent crude, the international standard, fell 0.03 percent to $77.60 a barrel.

According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were sellers on Thursday and sold shares worth a net Rs 15,243.27 crore.
