Center plans to add 75,000 medical posts across country in next 10 years: Shah

The central government plans to add 75,000 medical seats across the country over the next decade to improve healthcare infrastructure, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday (October 4).

“We have set a target of adding 75,000 medical posts in the next 10 years to meet the growing demands for healthcare,” Shah said, at the inauguration of Hiramani Arogyadham, a trust-run hospital in Adalaj village.

Shah, in his speech, highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comprehensive approach to improving healthcare. “Prime Minister Modi started Swachhta Abhiyan, a cleanliness drive aimed at eradicating numerous diseases. He then focused on providing pure drinking water and constructing toilets in every home to protect citizens from various health problems,” Shah said.

He further emphasized how the Prime Minister popularized yoga and introduced the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh. “For better implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the focus was on improving primary and community health centers and establishing new medical colleges,” Shah added, pointing out that each college is equipped with hospitals having all 14 departments .

The Minister also mentioned the government’s ongoing efforts to create a network of pharmacies offering affordable generic medicines, as part of Modi’s comprehensive healthcare vision.

Shah underlined that the Modi government has launched and implemented 37 different schemes benefiting the country’s 140 million citizens, and his visit to Gujarat is part of a two-day trip aimed at promoting development projects.
