Panasonic’s oil-free fryer company thrives on word of mouth

Panasonic, known for its home appliances and televisions, has set its sights on the deep fryer segment. Panasonic told CNBC-TV18 that it pioneered the oil-free fryer category in India almost 12 years ago and has effectively influenced perceptions of healthy eating, leveraging its first-mover advantage to establish a strong position in the market.

As stated by Gulbahar Taurani, MD & CEO, Versuni India Home Solutions Ltd., “…we have always focused on being at the forefront of innovation in the kitchen appliances segment.” This commitment to innovation has allowed Panasonic to offer a wide range of oil-free fryers, priced between $5,000 and $40,000, guaranteeing accessibility for all.

Panasonic recently launched a dedicated manufacturing line at its new Ahmedabad factory, producing oil-free fryers for the Indian market. Emphasizing the importance of this expansion, Taurani noted, “To meet the growing demand, we have recently launched a manufacturing line specifically dedicated to the production of oil-free fryers for the Indian market.” This initiative reflects the brand’s commitment to making everyday life healthier and more comfortable.

One of the standout products in Panasonic’s lineup is the recently launched Dual Basket Air Fryer, designed for large families and those who enjoy cooking multiple dishes simultaneously. With two asymmetrical baskets and a combined capacity of 9 liters, this innovative appliance offers synchronized cooking, ensuring that different dishes are ready at the same time. Taurani highlighted the technology behind this product: “Our RapidAir Plus technology, combined with the patented starfish design, guarantees perfectly cooked food every time.”

The oil-free fryer category in India has seen remarkable growth, expanding by approximately 30% to 35% last year alone. This rise in popularity is primarily attributed to a shift toward healthier lifestyles among consumers. Taurani noted: “We believe this trend will pave the way for even more advanced and consumer-centric offerings in the near future,” underlining the brand’s commitment to innovation.

Panasonic’s dedication to sustainability and health is evident in its product development. The brand is aligning its offering with key trends shaping the home appliance industry, including the rise of smart connected devices, eco-friendly materials and a focus on health and wellness. Taurani said: “We are strategically aligning our product offering with the latest trends,” showcasing the brand’s proactive approach to consumer needs.

Recognizing India as a priority growth market, Panasonic is implementing strategies to strengthen its presence and market share. With a legacy of over 130 years through Philips and Preethi, the company aims to localize production in a significant way. The new Ahmedabad factory is expected to produce up to 1.5 million fryers a year, reinforcing the ‘Make in India’ initiative and catering to the growing demand for healthier cooking options.

In addition to manufacturing, Panasonic is committed to enhancing consumer engagement through a strong after-sales service network. Taurani emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Our after-sales service is designed to offer continuous support and commitment,” ensuring that customers enjoy a perfect experience with their products long after the purchase.
